Dialysis and Kidney Transplant
Dialysis was the option presented to me when my kidneys failed. I faced many challenges and lost my quality of life. My son made a brave decision to give me a kidney. His generosity and selflessness restored within me hope, determination and the spirit to give back as it had been given to me. I transitioned from dialysis to a transplanted kidney to a Restoration of my life. What a lasting impact he made in my life.
I felt a burning desire to serve others facing kidney disease as my family and others had given me. I started attending NC and NY Kidney walks and made donations to various Kidney foundations. Experiences from those journeys blossomed into forming the non-profit, It Only Takes 1 One. We seized the opportunity to impact the lives of dialysis patients and patients living with chronic kidney disease. It Only Takes 1 one aims to motivate, advocate, educate and support these patients. This is why we must be empowered by patient education, public education and organ donation. Sharing you tube videos, sending information about dialysis, donor an living donors is useful to the patients. Through continual commitment, use of updated free printed and web-based educational materials, summits, webinars and sharing we can continue to impact the kidney community as we Transplant kidneys and Transform lives.
I am grateful to God and appreciative of my living donor (son, David) for all the things that they have done and all victories thus far I have won. Surely, It Only Takes 1 One! It's Not What We Say But What We Do.
